Ancestral boasts a superbly refined selection of East-Asian cuisine. As one of Wellington City's more recent additions to the culinary scene, the restaurant and bar provides diners with an elegant, yet suitably comfortable, space for sharing conversation over a table of excellent food and exclusive drinks for discerning patrons. While the restaurant menu itself focuses on both the Sichuan & Guangzhou (Canton) areas of China, the bar presents the finest range of Whisky in the city. Not to mention the impressive cocktails, wine & beer options to match. The beautiful range of cocktails cleverly fuses flavours & ingredients from East Asia with the drinking inflections of the West. A sheltered garden space in the rear of the restaurant boasts a Japanese yakitori grill amid carefully designed greenery, which perfects this truly enchanting scene. There are those who desire more seclusion and selective attention - the Haipai Dining Room is available for reservation. The multi-sensory experience of Ancestral has been complimented with a talented team of hand-selected staff, who aspire to perpetuate the aesthetic and culinary detail of this fine establishment.

Everything I tried was beautifully cooked and seasoned to perfection. Presentation and ambiance were superb and particularly nice if you want something a little different and more upmarket than your usual Asian.
Would definitely go back but probably only for a special occasion as despite it being great in dont think it was so great as to warrant the prices. -

Went for a fixed price, 5 plate lunch. Presentation and food were very good, but I thought expensive for what was provided. Staff were very attentive and dealt with an ‘off’ bottle of beer promptly and pleasantly. Outdoor seating area was just the spot on a sunny day.

Came here on a Sunday night with a couple of friends for cocktails and ended up getting a few dishes off the menu too. The staff were friendly and helpful. The menu was delicious and the cocktails were made perfectly. Can’t wait to go back!

Simply unbelievably good – truly wow. Amazing good food and service great – just ask and get great advice. I could be here regularly. It’s like China does tapas but not yum cha, food and wine matching and no cliches. Modern Chinese food backed up with great beer and wine. Have a Galbraith’s Munich Lager and tuck into the pork trotters, paua or scampi! Unfreakin’ believable!

The best selection of single malt whisky in Wellington with a very realistic price. $13.50 for a PC8 compared to some other place at $26.00. Great outdoor area to enjoy a cigar with your favorite whisky.
