Friends & I had brunch, we were all hugely disappointed with the service. I had also been here another time where the service wasn’t great & therefore I won’t be going back. The waitress was rude, abrupt, got our orders wrong and we waited for ages to get any attention. We were given the wrong food & drinks & instead of apologizing, taking the meal back & explaining, the waitress came up to the table, grabbed the meal from underneath my friend and took off with no explanation, we were all like ?? What the??. I have been to the other Caffe Ittaliano restaurants in wellington, city and Thorndon & the food and service has been great and would recommend these but defineately not Cuba St.

They had a 2 for one pasta dinner special for students, which we tried once, and that food was excellent. Coffee was well made too, but the furniture in this place is the wrost. Very uncomfortable, and the tables are pretty tightly packed – a bit pokey, actually. Anyway, good ocffee, and they have a massive collection of delicious italian deli foods for your home pantry or fridge.Solid coffee, and a good alternative to busy hipster fests elsewhere, but as a chainstore and yuppie deli supply place, this place is frequented by snobby older types which isn’t ideal for everyone, i guess.
Update:
Recent visits to this place have been awful and i won’t be going back. A simple order of two coffees and a muffin to have here, and after 15 minutes we gave up waiting for the muffin. My partner went inside to complain before we left, and there was no apology, or attempt to rectify the situation. I’ve worked in cafes, and under these circumstances – a blatant error on a simple order, when the place wasn’t exacvtly packed – i would offer restitution in the form of a free muffin, coffee or something. The staff refused to offer up the measily muffin for free, or anything – and were incredibly rude. Won’t be going back. Simple. -

My colleague and I dined at this restaurant and ordered a glass of wine, a starter and mains. When asked to explain the wines the waitress only explained the most expensive one.
My entree was oily and overpriced, my main tasted like packet pasta and sauce, and what my colleague’s pizza lacked in tomatoes it certaintly made up for in low grade cheese.
The waitstaff were blustery and slow and walked past our table at least 10 times before clearing our entree dishes.
I would not reccomend this establishment. -
