Reviews for Courtenay Taj

A friend and I saw a sign outside the Taj Courtenay Place saying “An entree and two mains for $40″ which to any regular punter means two meals for $40. When inside, the waitress told us that the entree we could pick had to be something on the cheaper menu, not the more expensive things, and that included in the $40 deal is only ONE small bowl of rice and excludes naan bread. So myself and my friend both ordered a naan bread each, knowing it would cost extra, which made us feel a bit ripped off. As the waitress was leaving, she asked us if we would like a poppadom with our entree, we were like, “okay?”. When she served the poppadom, it came with 3 small pottles of dips, followed by the entree and our mains.
When we went to pay, the final bill was $60!
When she asked if we wanted poppadoms, we assumed she only meant popadoms, and they are usually cheap, but for the two popadoms it was an extra $2 and she charged us $3 for each pottle of dip!!!!!! SERIOUSLY?!
So, without telling us, we spent an extra $11 on some popadoms and a tiny bit of dips.
It was very dishonest service and I will never dine in again.
Despite this complete mess of a situation, the curry had a good spice variety, but the lamb in my dish was very tough.
I wouldn’t go back, the value for money is shocking. I now know why the restaurant was completely empty.

Just had the exact same experience as the reviewer ‘Ace’. The manager refused to accept one of our party’s entertainment gold card except under her own bizarre rules which were not in keeping with the stipulations of the card. In short, we were lied and cheated out of our free meal.
I don’t really know why we even bothered complaining. The meal was average to poor. The service rude and disinterested. And the prices outrageous.
Seriously, don’t bother going to this curry house if you want a decent meal at decent prices served by decent folk. This place is bad bad bad!

These guys are scammers! If I could give them a 0, I would.
Went there with an Entertainment Gold card and gave it to them. They tried to wriggle out of it – I have never had this issue at any other place before.
First, they tried to tell me that the discount was only valid for 2 meals or more. I showed them a copy of the actual book (which stated that the voucher was applicable for 1 person with 1 meal). They then said that the meal needed to cost more than $30 (my bill was around $25). When I stated that this wasn’t mentioned anywhere, they then turned it around and said that the maximum discount was 30% but it was pro-rata (so, the lesser the bill, the lesser the discount).
Finally, they change it again and stated that the discount would be $25 off if I buy a meal worth $50.
I was shell-shocked at their blatant lies and how desperate they were to wriggle out of this. If they do not want to give the discount, that’s fine with me, but DO NOT get into the entertainment book.
For me, the whole point of the book was to try out new places (I have never been here before), see whether the service/food was good and then, go back again regularly.
But, this is outrageous – I definitely wouldn’t go back again. I am put off these guys and will let the Entertainment guys know as well.

Went with a group for a last minute meal at the taj. Food was good. Byo is always good. Hardly anyone there on a Saturday night which is never a good sign. Only complaint and the reason for the low score is due to the bill settlement. The wait staff themselves were patient and friendly enough.

Had DineIn twice before. Last night I had 4 takeaways from Groupy Vouhure. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Lamb was very tender and spices were perfect up to standards. We will be back with another groupy vouchers.
