Reviews for Days Bay Pavilion

Went to the Days Bay Pavilion today Sunday 17th Nov 2013, had to line up to order, the girl behind the counter, ( think she was new) took forever to take peoples orders, when it was our turn, ordered the special for the day, which was lentil and pumpkin on rice $14, the girl didn’t know what it was or the price (big blackboard with specials on it in front of her) anyway placed our order, husband had the ficelle with a lime milkshake, I ordered the lentil and pumpkin, with soy cap, and the peach and apple pie which we were sharing, and asked for two forks! The soy cap came, as did the peach pie with one fork, asked for another, then was told they didn’t have any more lentil and pumpkin left (time was just after 1pm, so thought they should have enough for lunchtime) anyway she stood there asking did I want something else, which there wasn’t anything else I liked. so i just had my half of the peach pie, husband finally got his ficelle, which took ages, I had finished my coffee, and we had eaten the pie , and were still waiting for the ficelle, which only had to be heated, waited for the milkshake, which never arrived, finally after waiting over three quarters of an hour , knew husband wasn’t going to get the milkshake, went up to the counter for another refund ( first for the lunch , which they didn’t have) and for the milkshake, only to be told they would make it now, as apparently it only takes a few seconds to make!! Certainly didn’t want it now, as would have been nice to get it when he was eating his lunch, as it only takes a few sec to make!!! They were not busy there, and had plenty of staff on, so don”t understand such slack service, will not be going there again!!!!!!

Generally we like the Pavillion a lot – today we placed an order for takeaway chips and after ten minutes someone asked are you waiting for anything – the order hadn’t even been started – hopefully systems, processes and training will improve. It’s along way to go for a drive but lovely location. Still customers have right to expect a fair level of service. We work hard all week and want to enjoy our weekends – without hassles. If you can’t efficiently take and process an order for chips when you are not busy and have lots of staff makes one wonder. VJDComment from Angus O.of Days Bay Pavilion 31/08/2013 Hide »

Really impressed with menu and service at Days Bay Cafe. They don’t pretend to be a 5 star restaurant, but their cafe fare is excellent!
Had our son back from Melbourne for Christmas and he wanted to check it out as he worked there ‘briefly’ for the previous owner. Liked all our meal and coffee so much we made it a daily pilgrimage and managed to check out a good number of their menu, pizzas as well as lashings of their absolutely beautiful coffee…Don’t change it guys!!!!!
Great location right opposite Days Bay Wharf (where the East by West Ferry berths), so easy to get to and parking is plentiful if bringing the car around the bays. Big expansive grounds surround the Pavilion and a lot of fun and hilarity with families playing touch rugby and generally chilling. Days Bay beach is just a crossing away so suggest you make a day of it and combine, swim, (coffee!), chill-time, swim (coffee!!), lunch, (coffee!!!), moi, …. whatever?
Meals are tasty and substantial and there is a very tasty range of dishes for lunch and dinner. Never went hungry and even struggled once or twice to finish my plate. Staff are great and very helpful. After breakfast (the last day) we wandered around the beach and Pavilion grounds and even checked out the duck pond (complete with baby ducklings) before heading on.
I’m not into making reviews but our son said since most folk are quick to complain – they should be just as quick to compliment. He’s right (…like his mother!).
Definitely a favourite now and highly recommend Days Bay Pavilion Cafe and Pizzeria to others.

Vast improvement in recent times!
Called with a car club group of 26 + 5 kids at short notice (a phone call about two hours prior) to find an outside area all prepared and ready to go. The coffee & food met everyone’s expectations and the staff could not have been more helpful.
All this on a busy Sunday afternoon – what more can you ask for?

There is nothing too flashy about the Day’s Bay Pavilion, except for the pizza. And that is simply divine.
I have terrible memories of the old Pavilion cafe from a few years’ ago, shocking service and even worse greasy food. I am not really sure what has changed in terms of the venue itself, but in its current incarnation it feels much more welcoming. Perhaps that was just the lovely sunset and the blazing fire though.
The service wasn’t flash, the staff were young and disorganised (two different waitresses tried to take our order), but very polite despite an obvious rush of other customers.
The kitchen offered a range of mains, but we went straight for the pizzas. All were made with thin bases and excellent ingredients – and were excellent value. After chatting to the waiter (our third) we ended the meal with an off-menu secret – the Nutella Calzone. This is a sweet pizza base smeared with Nutella, folded in half and popped into the pizza oven until the outside is crisp and the inside is melty. It doesn’t sound much, but it was absolutely yum – and a complete bargain at a few cheap dollars.
I enjoyed my visit so much that I returned a day later to try brunch. Again it wasn’t flashy, but the coffee was good and the food was simple, but expertly made with truly excellent ingredients.
