Le Metropolitan brings the authentic taste of France to the capital. Chef Sébastien Jacquet presents the classic dishes of the world’s finest cuisine, crafted with the produce of New Zealand and abroad. ‘Our passion is simple, honest food, made with the best ingredients we can find.’ Signature dishes include baked onion soup with gruyère croûton, Boeuf Bourguignon, steak et frites... A blackboard of daily specials offers seasonal delights and surprises. Complement your meal with wines from an extensive list, or treat yourself with pre- or post-dinner delectables such as a champagne cocktail or cognac. Further indulgences include an array of cheeses, and dessert of course. Anyone for crème brûlée, profiteroles or chocolate gateau? With its oh-so French interior décor, relaxed atmosphere and friendly service, Le Metropolitain is perfect for all occasions - whether you come as family, friends, or lovers; whether you’re popping in for a pre-theatre meal or settling in for a relaxed evening; or whether you’re a true-blue bon vivant, or just can’t go past that tart in the window!

Went to Le Metrppolitain for brunch this weekend. Ordered the scrambled eggs, salmon and watercress on a croissant. The eggs were delicious, perhaps the best I’ve ever had. Croissant was soft and buttery. My companions also enjoyed their meals although the French toast with bacon was quite small. I had to remind the waitress about my french fries as they hadn’t arrived by the time we all finished our meals. Once I asked they quickly came out though.

Classic French bistro food properly priced.
They happen to be a bit heavy on the salt though. But you can let them know before hand if you don’t want too much salt. -

Although we were in and out of Le Metropolitan within an hour, we experienced lovely service and a great meal.
Portion size for the meat dishes ordered by our table were very French (ie quite small), however my potatoe and mushroom gratin was hearty and filling. It would pay to order a side of greens, however.
My French Viognier was very pleasant and the boys on the table enjoyed the Tuatara Beer.

lovely location and décor. No live music tonight. Somewhat French style on then off service. onion soup reasonable a bit sweet and a little short on flavour but v good texture. Lovely white anchovies on slightly bland roasted vine tomatoes. Main course for me was slow roasted lamb shanks with polenta chips. Meat rather bland ( this is an easy dish to do well) OK polenta chips. potato chips soft fatty not fresh. No vegetables with meal. salad (expensive mesclun with harsh vinegar dressing) ordered separately. wine list limited BUT all wines available by glass well done! Interesting French aperitifs. Cheeses disappointing ( raw milk cheeses readily available in Wellington now) crème brulee very wide and shallow disappointing. overall typical to my mind overpriced “bistro” meal which is an excuse for steak and chips at high price. Suggestion: go for coffee and the atmosphere

The choc mousse and creme brulee were stunning.
