Exploring the Sunday cure-all with Motel Bar Join the team at Motel Bar on Wellington Open Day, Sunday 27 May, as they explore the restorative properties of the Bloody Mary and the humble bacon butty - the traditional Sunday cure-all. This classic morning after cocktail will be extolled, expanded and extensively rambled about by our experienced team, all of whom are well-versed in the necessity of the 'hair of the dog'. All proceeds to the Wellington Zoo Tiger Fund Hidden in a quiet alleyway off Tory Street is where you will find us. Look out for the discreet wooden door. Be careful because if you turn off too early you’ll wind up in the back of the burger joint next door. Ring the white doorbell and wait for the buzz, then pull on the handle and follow the stairs. At Motel we believe that the cocktail, with its rich, extensive history and varied global character is far too complex to define with a single cocktail list. Therefore, we constantly rotate our featured theme menus to celebrate different eras in drinking history and seasonal flavours with an air of irreverence. We also observe certain dates of importance every year with special commemorative menus, including Cameron Day, the anniversary of the Storming of the Ritz and the repeal of Prohibition, as well as the usual suspects: St Patricks Day, Canada Day, Bastille Day and of course Xzibit’s birthday. We don’t share any of these menus online though so you will have to come in to find out for yourselves what we are currently serving.

Went there the other night and flipped out. Haven’t been in Welly too long but the booze on offer was more than i’d ever seen in my life. Really friendly staff and this dude (Julio or something? He was Israeli i think. Too many o/fashioneds!) helped sealed the deal with my date. Will be back!

Motel is a cool place to go for a drink or even a bite to eat (or even a cigar!).
Try the blue cheese and apple sandwich, for $5 you cant go wrong!
Also the bartenders are happy to be creative and make a drink that suits your tastes in case you cant find on on the menu. All ways a favourite place to go.
It is hard to find though – down the alley and ring the doorbell or sometimes through chow.
