Have been to this place twice now and both times have been the best. Their customer service is way beyond excellent and you arrive to a warm smile and friendly service. We had to use their phone to call a friend who didn’t know where the venue was and was allowed to do so, not once but 3 times! The food prices are reasonable as well. Will def go back there and highly recommend this place – A +++

One of the best Thai restaurants I have encounted in Wellington. Authentic, tasty, and also affordable. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. When one of the dishes at our table was too hot, the chef was more than happy to cook her another replacement meal at no cost. Everyone at our table was pleased with their meals. I would definitely recommend.

Enjoyed a delicious meal here, on spec, on a Friday. Service also great, attentive but not in your face. Myself, I had the Yum Goong Nang – Prawn salad, to start. And the Pla Tod Rad Phrik Kang – crispy fish (Tarakihi). Ordered both in medium spicy and was unexpectedly delighted when it arrived with the requested spiciness. My favourite was the fish dish, it was cooked to perfection and and the spices did not overpower the fish, but I struggled to finish both fillets. Himself offered his assistance however.
Cold drinking water & steamed rice is frequently offered.
The other half ordered the Tom Kaa Gai & Mussaman Curry in Thai style hot. It was. And also very flavoursome. He pointed out that the lime leaf was fresh in the soup and the flavours were balanced and the beef was so tender in the curry that a spoon was all that was required to enjoy it,
Got a nice surprise when the bill arrived too.
Overall – Good value, fast & attentive service, quite large portions, not elbow to elbow on a wkend night, could do with more toilets, wine list reasonable & enough to select from. Didn’t have dessert. I would have liked to give 4.5 stars but it’s not possible. Half point taken off for not having a more options I haven’t tried yet on the menu.

I love this place. I have frequented this restaurant for many many years. Although I no longer live in Wellington, I go back to Royal Thai when in town. The food is divine, great value for money, and wonderful staff and service. What more could you want?

I have been eating at The Royal Thai for several years now, and it is one of my favourite restaurants in Wellington. This is because the food is consistently tasty and delicious, and great value for money. The service is always good, very prompt, with lovely staff and we have never had a bad experience there. And we love the fact that we can order the bread from the restaurant Ghengis Khan next door, and take our own wine…it’s always an enjoyable night out!!
